TENNESSEE WILLIAMS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: The Rose Tattoo
(Daniel Mann, 117 mins, NR, 1955)
Each year we proudly celebrate the birthday of legendary playwright Tennessee Williams, who was born on March 26, 1911.

His powerful storytelling and unforgettable characters have left a lasting mark on American theater and film, and here at the Tropic we are honored to keep his spirit alive.

Our birthday celebration brings the community together to recognize his extraordinary legacy with a special screening and shared appreciation for one of the South’s most influential voices.

Join us as we gather to celebrate his life, his art, and the enduring impact of his work on audiences around the world. The Rose Tattoo tells the story of Serafina Delle Rose, a passionate Sicilian American widow who is devastated by the sudden death of her husband.

Convinced of his fidelity and clinging to his memory, she withdraws from the world and guards her grief fiercely.

When she learns that her husband had been unfaithful, her idealized image of him shatters, forcing her to confront both betrayal and loneliness.

Through an unexpected romance with a warm hearted truck driver, Serafina slowly begins to rediscover joy, desire, and the possibility of new beginnings.
