While we can’t meet up over popcorn and a glass of wine at the Tropic, we can still enjoy some of the best new independent film! The Tropic’s new Virtual Cinematheque Series now offers you the chance to check out new movies at home—and to support the Tropic while you do! Our Virtual Cinematheque series for April now includes “The Times of Bill Cunningham,” a documentary about the iconic street photographer, tastemaker and fashion historian that provides a rare first-person glimpse into his life and times.
Told in Cunningham’s own words from a recently unearthed six-hour 1994 interview, he chronicles—in his customarily cheerful and plainspoken manner—moonlighting as a milliner in France during the Korean War, his unique relationship with First Lady Jackie Kennedy, his four decades at the New York Times and his democratic view of fashion and society. Narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker, “The Times of Bill Cunningham” features incredible photographs chosen from over 3 million previously unpublicized images and documents from Cunningham.
“‘The Times of Bill Cunningham'” is only 74 minutes long, yet it’s a snapshot of a life that leaves you grateful for having encountered it.” —Variety
