The Attack of the B’s strikes again this summer at the Tropic Cinema! Curated by John Abramson and hosted as always by Chris and Lora, the series will feature a camp classic every Saturday morning through August 3.
“Son of Ingagi” kicks off like plenty of haunted-mansion flicks, when a wealthy old recluse wills her fortune and exceedingly-gloomy house to a pair of newlyweds, Robert and Eleanor Lindsay. Monstrous developments ensue — but that’s not what makes “Son of Ingagi” notable. The film, written by and starring Spencer Williams, is allegedly the first science fiction-horror film to feature an all-black cast. While today Williams is best remembered as the latter half of “Amos and Andy,” he was a true talent and a pioneer in the category of what were then dubbed “race films.”
All Attack of the B’s screenings start at 10:30 a.m. and are accompanied by pre-show shorts: campy educational films, period commercials, vintage trailers and cartoons, drive-in ads and more!
