Everyone knows the Tropic’s Marilyn Monroe statue — star of selfies and vacation photos for 15 years. So it’s only fitting that we celebrate Marilyn Monroe’s birthday with one of her all-time classic films: “Some Like It Hot.”
Named the funniest comedy of all time by the AFI, “Some Like It Hot” is the riotous adventure of struggling musicians Jerry and Joe (Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon), who accidentally witness the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and go on the run from the Mob. The only hiding place they can find? A trip across the country with an all-female dance band.
Wearing their best drag and doing all they can to blend in, Jerry and Joe make it out of town — but their problems are just starting. Joe, understandably, falls for his fellow band member Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), and Jerry ends up catching the eye of a rich suitor who won’t take “No” for an answer.
We invite Key West to come celebrate with us for Marilyn’s birthday. And don’t be a drag — come in the most outrageous costume you can dream up!
