The Tropic Cinema is proud to be a Screening Partner for the 2018-19 Southern Circuit, a touring festival bringing the best of new independent film to communities across the South. Our 2019 slate of Southern Circuit films kicks off with “93Queen,” an inside look at at a group of tenacious Hasidic women who are taking on the patriarchy in their Brooklyn community.

The film follows Rachel “Ruchie” Frier, a no-nonsense Hasidic lawyer and mother of six who is determined to shake up the “boys club” in her Hasidic community by creating Ezras Nashim, New York’s first all-female ambulance corps. With unprecedented and exclusive access, “93Queen” traces the formation and launch of Ezras Nashim through the organization’s first year on the ground.

Director Paula Eiselt and producer Heidi Reinberg offer up a unique portrayal of a group of empowered women who are taking matters into their own hands to change their own community from within.
